Mikelangelo In The Belly Of The Whale

Organised by
Great Southern Nights in association with Funhaus Factory presents In The Belly Of The Whale

Part journey across the wild seas, part voyage into the depths of the human soul

Great Southern Nights 2025 takes place from 21 March – 6 April 2025 featuring 300+ gigs across Sydney & New South Wales.

“Mikelangelo weaves a seductive spell around the audience…loved every minute”  ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The List (UK)

In The Belly Of The Whale is a new solo show by acclaimed Croatian-Australian singer, songwriter and performer Michael Simic. In this rambunctious musical adventure, we discover how Simic first came face to face with his charming alter-ego Mikelangelo, and how the two have been inextricably linked ever since. Weaving songs and storytelling into magical, mysterious voyage into the unknown, this is a show filled with laughter, emotion and imagination. It is a story of the blurred lines between the creator and the creation, and the balancing act between being an artist and a father and husband. In The Belly Of The Whale is a clarion call to accept that no matter how far we travel, we will always hold our parents, and our ancestors, within us.

Mikelangelo is the alter-ego of songwriter and creative dynamo Michael Simic. For 25 years, he has travelled Australia and the globe as a solo performer and fronting his long term group Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen. He has packed venues and garnered accolades from the Sydney Opera House to London’s West End, releasing 15 independent albums and building a worldwide following.
