Pelican Time Eco Experience

Join us for a brand NEW eco-friendly Pelican educational experience

We're proud to have a brand new eco-friendly tourism experience on the Central Coast that gives locals and guests a unique insight into one of the region's special birds, the Pelican.

Pelican Time with Marine Wildlife Rescue Central Coast will take place every Saturday, Sunday, Public Holidays (with the exception of Christmas) and every day during School Holidays, at 3:30pm at Pelican Plaza, The Entrance.

Celebrating the Pelicans

The Entrance channel and Tuggerah Lakes are home to many wild Pelicans who have become a well-known icon in the region. As a leading ecotourism region in NSW, and one of Australia’s first certified ECO Destinations, this new attraction will pay homage to these magnificent local birds in a respectful and safe way.

Pelicans have played an integral role in making The Entrance a much-loved holiday destination for generations. With this in mind Marine Wildlife Rescue Central Coast, with the support of Central Coast Council and Destination Central Coast, have launched this new educational talk that provides visitors with the opportunity to experience seeing wild pelicans in their natural environment, while learning about pelicans from trained volunteers who have been rescuing and caring for them for over 30 years.

Take a moment to learn about our region's nature

These FREE education talks cover interesting facts on pelicans, including care and rescue of pelicans in the wild, plus ways that we can all help protect pelicans and their environment by being waste wise when fishing and visiting this area of the Central Coast.

A family friendly experience

See these huge birds up close and fully appreciate their beauty and size! The hardworking volunteers from Marine Wildlife Rescue will share their valuable knowledge on all things pelicans, as well as fascinating information on other wildlife in the region.

When you come along to listen to Pelican Time, please follow these few simple and respectful ground rules:

  1. While Pelican Time is on you must remain seated; this is to maintain safety and allows everyone the opportunity to enjoy the Pelican Time talk. If you are lucky enough to be in the front row, please remain seated until the very end.
  2. If you wish to stand, you need to move to the back of the crowd to allow everyone to enjoy seeing the pelicans
  3. Please do not raise your hands or make any sudden movements, while the Pelican Time talk is underway.
  4. After the Pelican Time talk concludes we request that you DO NOT approach, or try to feed, any of the pelicans who may still be in the area.
  5. If you wish to take a photo, please do so at a distance and do not attempt a selfie or to get in a photo close to a pelican.
  6. The volunteers of Marine Wildlife Rescue Central Coast are passionate about all things pelicans, please ask them any questions you may have and always treat them with kindness and respect.
