Tasty must-try pies of the Central Coast

The Central Coast artisan bakery scene is blooming, and this means we are lucky to have several delicious locations across the region to enjoy a good Aussie pie. But also, premium pies, slow-cooked bbq brisket pies, savoury pies, sweet cherry pies, creamy mornay pies, veggie deluxe pies, vegan pies, gluten free pies, bake at home pies... the list goes on! 

If you fancy a tasty pastry package for lunch, dinner or your next Central Coast road trip, here are some excellent local spots selling pies you simply must try if you call yourself a true pie connoisseur.

Bakehouse 2000 - Empire Bay Drive, Kincumber

In the leafy suburb of Kincumber and coming highly recommended by the locals Bakehouse 2000 is a bakery and sandwich bar offering a selection of homemade deep filled pies. We've been told that the butter chicken pie and goulash pie are a must! 

Bells Bakery & Larder - The Scenic Road, Killcare

Broomfield Pie Co are now showcasing their pastry products at Bells Bakery & Larder in Killcare, which is an absolute treat for pie fans. If you haven't heard of Broomfield before, their pies are made with the best of local, seasonal produce, handcrafted with all butter pastry. Flavours change weekly and can include Wagyu beef and onion, chicken and leek, and vegetable with chip shop curry sauce.

Birdy Cafe - Scenic Drive, Budgewoi

Birdy's Cafe homemade pies do not last long! They slowly cook their side of beef for 14 hours in a smoker, giving the brisket a smoky and ultra tender juicy flavour. New pies are introduced every week, some more often including brisket, jalopeno and cheese or mince, bacon and cheese topped with a hash brown. Try for yourself and you will see why these are a sell out!

Bouffant - Victoria Street, East Gosford

A Central Coat bakery dedicated to making tasty flaky and fresh baked goodies including pies! Get your lunchtime fix or any time of the day fix with sausage rolls and gourmet pies with a choice of flavourings from Bouffant.  

Bremen Patisserie - West Street, Umina

Bremen Patisserie has been serving gourmet award-winning pies to the community and its guests for more than 30 years, home to the 'best pies in the universe' according to its high street sign - including the famous 'Flaming Ron' fuelled with the Carolina Reaper chilli, which is more than 300 times hotter than a jalapeño! Locals claim it's certainly hot, but absolutely delicious. Their pastry products are baked daily on the premises by a team of qualified bakers and pastry cooks using fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and spices to create flavourful fillings include chicken korma, beef burgundy and mushroom, mango chicken and peanut curry, and veggie mornay.

Brown Sugar Bakery - Forresters Beach Road, Forresters Beach

Just off the main road in 2260 you can easily pull into a row of shops featuring the much-loved family-run Brown Sugar Bakery. Headed up by baker Paul this Forries bakery is open every day of the week from 6am! The team are committed to the highest quality pies and sausage rolls, including standout favourites Mushy Pea (yep, the peas are inside the pastry), chicken curry, and classic Aussie meat pies. While you're there, don't miss stocking up on the handmade artisan loaves too!

Burnt Honey Bakery - Long Jetty and Copacabana

This Central Coast bakery powerhouse needs no introduction - because if you haven't found yourself queueing on a weekend at Copacabana for a Copa Queen and coffee, have you even been to the Central Coast?! Jokes aside, there are some seriously delicious pie flavours available at Burnt Honey and handmade by their talented baker team, owners and partners, Hayley and Jo. For example, imagine parking up in a cosy spot by the sea on a grey day and devouring a lentil shepherds pie with confit garlic and rosemary mash, or a Moroccan chickpea pie with housemade jam! Pie heaven is real. Keep an eye on their socials for the latest weekly treats to preorder, and arrive early as they always sell out!

Flour and Co - Toowoon Bay Road, Toowoon Bay

With over 30 years in the bakery business, all Flour and Co's tasty pies are waiting in the warmer for your post beach refuelling and each handmade from scratch every sunrise, with flavours including your classic meat pie, veggie options and curry sensations.

Gourmet Bakehouse - Stockyard Place, West Gosford 

If you are after some tasty gourmet baked pies as you travel along the tradie hub of Gosford, pop into Gourmet Bakehouse for a pie that are make freshly backed onsite. Hot tip, their curry pie is a must try! 

Heatherbraes Pies - Old Pacific Highway, Ourimbah

An essential stop for pie lovers is of course the top pie destination in the state! Heatherbraes humble beginnings started in the 1990s in Raymond Terrace and since July 2022 they have called the Central Coast home - and our tummies are rumbling for a visit! Such an easy pit-stop just off the M1 near Ourimbah, this is the place to go if 'pie for dinner' is your vibe. Styled like a pub and sporting daily special flavours, each pie is made fresh on site prepared to its own unique recipe before the first surfer even hits a wave every morning. To make this a stop not to be missed, even those of you who are gluten free can stop by to get some tasty pastry.

Jerry's One Stop Cafe - George Downes Drive, Kulnura

Known as a perfect hinterland stop for food, coffee and a popular motorcycle meeting point, Jerry's is also great for hitting that hot pie craving! Family run since 2005, we'd recommend trying the Ned Kelly Pie, which we're warned may look like your ordinary potato pie - but what’s inside makes it a crowd favourite...

Ken's Humble Pie Shop - Coral Street, The Entrance

After a gorgeous walk along The Entrance foreshore, head to where there is often a line-up into Ken’s for their range of incredible daily fresh pie varieties, pelican-shaped novelty meringues and other traditional baked goods.

Pie in the Sky Bakery - The Entrance Road, Erina

Been shopping at Erina Fair and crave a proper juicy pie on your way home to refuel? Drop into Pie in the Sky Bakery at Palm Court just off the main road to browse over 30 scrumptious varieties of beef, chicken and vegetarian pies at this dedicated pie bakehouse. 

Rise Bakery - Ocean View Road, Ettalong

As well as championing sourdough on the Peninsula of the Coast, RISE do artisan pies! Small batch pies are waiting in the warmer for you, just perfect when the weather turns but you can still enjoy a fresh bakery treat with a wander around the Ettalong Galleria precinct. If it's the weekend, get in early for flavours including slow cooked brisket, chicken mornay and veggie coconut curry, generously topped with smokey tomato relish.

Saddles -  Ashbrookes Road, Mount White

If you’re touring the Pacific Highway scenic route - Tourist Drive 33 - pick up a fresh flaky pie for your onwards road trip. Located just off the scenic Pacific Highway at Mt White, you will find an array of savoury and sweet luxury takeaway treats available in this hinterland hideaway cafe at Saddles.

Shhmoakesy's Gourmet Pies - Kincumber

A bit of a delicious enigma on the Central Coast, you won't be disappointed once your taste buds discover Shhmoakesy's. Popping up at local markets including Terrigal on the first Saturday of the month, Gosford Markets on the third Saturday of the month, Long Jetty on the last Saturdays of the month, and Avoca Beach Markets on the last Sunday of the month - make your plan of attack! You can also visit local village stores stocking their gourmet pies including Pomegranate by Fresko Cafe in Kincumber, Seaside Emporium in Ettalong, Bottletree Kitchen in Bensville, Green Tangerine in Long Jetty, and Sip & Eat in Budgewoi. Sonoma Bakery - Church Street, Terrigal

Introducing their new 'Bake at Home' gourmet pie range in Terrigal, Sonoma offer six deliciously decadent sweet and savoury treats that include Chunky Beef Pie, Country Chicken Pie, Pork Sausage Rolls, Mini Quiches, Apple Pie and Double Choc Chip Cookies. Each are oven bake ready and simple to prepare. We recommend their family-sized Chunky Beef Pie, made with the flakiest Pate Brisee, fall apart tender pieces of beef slow cooked in a white wine gravy with aromatic herbs thyme and rosemary, enveloped in a whey butter ruff puff pastry... did we mention you can order online direct to your door?

The Fat Goose - Killcare Road, Killcare / Hardys Bay

Order a hearty pie from their display cabinet and sit in with a side salad for the proper Killcare lunch experience. Or grab one to go and devour at one of the foreshore's picnic spots looking out at Hardys Bay and Ettalong. On the bakery side, you’ll also find hand-crafted Italian style breads, rye loaves, classic European pastries, gluten free breads and sweets, muffins, friands, and quiches, all baked daily in house at The Fat Goose. If you are in Woy Woy, head to The Cnr. for these tasty pies! 

Toukley Golf Club - Key Street, Toukley

Perhaps a surprising one to add to the list, but numberous people can't be wrong. The homemade pies at Toukley Golf Club are good, really good. Selling out most days, the tasty meat pies are a must have for any golfer or locals visiting the club. At a very reasonable price, make sure you bite into one after your 18-hole game. 

Norah Head Patisserie, Norah Head

If you're heading up the northern end of the coast, stop by Norah Head Patisserie for fresh crunch in your mouth pie. With 26 different pie flavours you'll be heading back to try them all and if you've got some room left, they have a range of sweet treats to keep you satisfied.

Heatherbraes Pies - Old Pacific Highway, Ourimbah

Heathrebrae's now has a separate gluten free cafe upstairs with a purpose built kitchen used solely for their hand-made, coeliac quality, gluten free pastry and pies. 

Coastal Berry - Erina Fair, Erina

The Coastal Berry juice bar has a variety of gluten free sandwiches, slices and pies! Try their beef or chicken gourmet pies which are both dairy free and gluten free.  To avoid disappointment order online and collect from the shop!
