Daleys Point Aboriginal Relic Site

The Daleys Point Aboriginal Relic Site is located on a ridge top directly above the north east end of the Rip Bridge on the NSW Central Coast.

Back in the 1970s, local famous Australian figure Spike Milligan was part of the driving force behind campaigning for the on-site cave's preservation, giving it the nickname 'Milligans Cave'. It's also referred to as 'Fish Hook Shelter'.

The protected sacred site has panoramic views over St Huberts Island, Booker Bay and Broken Bay to the south. Access is possible via either Fishermans Parade or Maitland Bay Drive at the top of Wards Hill, where a firetrail leads to the special site. Daleys Point walking track is a moderately easy walk that can be enjoyed on a family day trip.

Aboriginal cultural artefacts to witness include:

• Fish
• Human forms
• Marine mammals, such as whales
• Wallaby
• Manta Ray or possible Sea Turtle
• Cave paintings with charcoal and ochre
• Axe grinding grooves
• Midden on floor of the cave dating +5,000 years

These engravings are best observed in late afternoon when the sun is low in the sky.
